Weaknecht, Munroe Announce Law Enforcement Caucus

April 9, 2025

HARRISBURG – State Rep. Eric Weaknecht (R-Berks) today joined state Rep. Brian Munroe (D-Bucks) to announce the new House Law Enforcement Caucus.

“The Law Enforcement Caucus is a bipartisan effort to support law enforcement officers in the Commonwealth by advancing meaningful legislation,” shared Weaknecht. “I am proud to serve as the Republican chair and look forward to working with the Democrat chair, Rep. Munroe.”

“Public safety is always a top priority for the legislature and the first step in making communities safer is more trained police officers on the job protecting lives and property,” Munroe, a former Radnor Township Police Department Corporal, said. “Everything we work for as lawmakers – better jobs, better schools, and better communities – all depends on making sure we’re giving law enforcement the tools they need to keep the people safe. This caucus isn’t about politics, it’s about building connections so we can work with officers in departments of every size in every county to make sure we’re doing the right thing for public safety, and I hope our bipartisan example here can be an example for other states in how lawmakers can unite around a single important issue.”

“A few weeks ago, I was a Police Captain on the streets of McKeesport, and just this week I was sworn in as a lawmaker – I’m here to help my brothers and sisters in uniform keep McKeesport and communities like it everywhere safe,” Rep. Dan Goughnour, (D-Allegheny) a 16-year veteran of the McKeesport Police Department, said. “Making sure police departments have the funding for officers and safety equipment is vital, and I’m proud to be standing with officers and lawmakers so we can all work together for the ultimate goal: safer communities for every Pennsylvanian.”

Weaknecht and Munroe were joined by House leadership: Republican Leader Jesse Topper (R-Bedford/Fulton); Democrat Leader Matthew Bradford (D-Montgomery); and Speaker of the House Joanna McClinton (D-Delaware/Philadelphia).
Speakers at the announcement also included Larry Gerrity, Legislative Committee chairman of the Pennsylvania Fraternal Order of Police State Lodge; John Eckenrode, president of the Pennsylvania State Corrections Officers Association; state Rep. Jim Rigby (R-Cambria/Somerset); and state Rep. Sean Dougherty (D-Philadelphia).

Following the press conference, Weaknecht and Munroe called a meeting of the caucus to discuss upcoming legislation pertaining to law enforcement officers.
