Weaknecht Announces State Grants for Infrastructure Improvements, Public Safety Projects
September 15, 2026
HARRISBURG – State Rep. Eric Weaknecht (R-Berks) today announced over $300,000 in Local Share Account (LSA) grants have been approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) to support infrastructure improvements and public safety projects across the 5th District.
Local Share Account grants are funded through gaming revenues under Act 71 of 2004 and are used to support economic development, community improvement and public interest projects.
“These grants bring more than $300,000 in state funding directly into our communities to make important improvements and purchase equipment our local organizations rely on,” Weaknecht said. “This is a smart investment in our district.”
The approved projects include:
• Berks County, on behalf of the Reading Regional Airport Authority- $200,000 for building renovations and safety and security upgrades at the Reading Regional Airport Terminal in Bern Township. The project includes replacing the terminal roof, upgrading fire suppression systems, installing terminal wide security cameras and a card access system and replacing terminal flooring.
• Heidelberg Township, on behalf of Womelsdorf Volunteer Fire Company- $69,947 to upgrade the fire engine tanker for the Womelsdorf Volunteer Fire. The project includes purchasing and installing new ladders, improved lighting for nighttime operations, upgrades to the hose bed for better hose securement and the addition of a backup camera and new siren.
• North Heidelberg Township- $57,924 to purchase a new skid. The equipment will replace a 50 year old grader that is limited to basic grading and too large for routine tasks. The skid loader will allow the township to complete a wide range of maintenance activities with one machine, including removing trees and storm debris, picking up brushes, cleaning gutters and ditches, installing pipes and plowing snow.
The Commonwealth Financing Authority is an independent agency responsible for administering state investments that support Pennsylvania’s economic growth and community development.
